Archaeologist, the first educational video game for learning archaeology

At REM Experience we are delighted to present Archaeologist, the first educational video game for learning archaeology in and out of the classroom. It is a new e-learning tool designed to complement the learning of social sciences in an interactive and fun way, both in school and at home.

The project was born of the need to help modernise the education system with new tools that complement traditional teaching methods and meet students' new needs.

Archaeologist gives you the chance to learn about and enjoy archaeology in a fun way.

One of the most attractive possibilities technology offers is bringing educational video games into the classroom, making it possible to work on different subjects in an immersive, motivating way, to study anytime and anywhere with no limits on practice, and to learn by trial and error, improving retention of concepts through an enriching experience.

Overall, educational video games give students new learning opportunities (such as developing concentration, coordination and decision-making skills) and the chance to learn anytime, anywhere. All in an interactive, motivating environment that brings gamification to life: the learning technique that takes game mechanics into education and professional settings to optimise results.

HISTORY, CULTURE, SCIENCE AND LANGUAGES

In this context, REM Experience has created Archaeologist, the first archaeology serious game that complements and optimises the learning of social sciences both in and out of the classroom.

Archaeologist is a video game in which players learn and apply archaeological methods while working as real archaeologists, and also gain knowledge of history, culture, science and languages, since it is available in Spanish and English. All in a fun and entertaining way, through play.

The game is divided into 8 sites in 5 different countries that introduce students to prehistoric people, Egyptian culture, the Roman Empire and the Muslim and Christian societies of the Middle Ages and early modern period through a series of challenges.

With Archaeologist you can learn more about prehistory, ancient Egypt or the Roman Empire.

Following archaeological methodology, students start the game by excavating an archaeological site. In this part, the game teaches users the importance of defining the site and documenting both the stratigraphic units and the artefacts they find during the excavation.

Students then go to the scientific laboratory, where they can classify the objects they have found. Archaeologist has four laboratories: Archaeofauna, Physical Anthropology, Ceramics and Numismatics.

RENOWNED ARCHAEOLOGISTS

Throughout each adventure, a renowned archaeologist accompanies the student, providing the information they need to understand and apply archaeological methods and learn about key historical aspects, so they can think critically, draw conclusions, answer hypotheses and write a final report on their work as an archaeologist.

Throughout the game, students also have access to a tutorial that explains archaeology as a scientific discipline and its methodology in depth as they progress.

Finally, Archaeologist assesses each student's work: when they finish, they receive metrics showing how they did and what they can improve. If they have done well, they receive a medal. The challenge for players is to collect all 8 medals in the game and become a Pro Archaeologist.

It is worth noting that Archaeologist has been endorsed by Spain's Ministry of Culture and Sport and is the first tool schools can use to complement social science education through learning archaeology.
